Are walkers welcome in the 5K Thanksgiving race?
Walkers are welcome and we always have several. Note the race is 5 MILES, not 5k. It goes up to the top of the park and back, but it’s not too hard if you’re used to it. We also have a one-mile walk if you don’t feel up to 5 miles. We hope to see you there!

Where does the 1.25 mile walk start and end?
It starts and finishes the same as the 5-mile race, but it starts at a little different time than the race. The start is near the splash-park and tennis courts, and the finish is near the amphitheater. The walk turns around just before the park exit to Southern Pkwy, and the run goes up to the top of the park and back.

Are we allowed to bring our dogs, keeping them on leash at all times? I saw some that had them last year… Thankyou!

Are strollers welcome?
Strollers are ok, but because the course can get quite crowded you should be extra careful. We expect up to 1000 people.

Is the cost of the 1.25 mile untimed race the same as the 5mile timed race?
Yes, they’re the same price. Walkers have the same opportunity for T-shirts, snacks, water, and door prizes as runners.
Excited and scared. LOL. Not a big hill runner, but it sounds like fun. And just think of the lack of guilt for the extra piece pumpkin pie later in the day.
It isn’t a very diffcult park to run..I have done a few races here and I think there are only 2 or 3 really though hills, but once you get through those..it’s smooth sailing!
Lindsay’s right. The first two miles are up a gradual hill to the top of the park. At the top there are a couple of steep hills, but they’re very short – you could walk them without losing much time. And then it’s all downhill to the finish.

Hi, the application states no entries after November 15, but then gives a race day registration fee. If I haven’t signed up yet, should I just show up on race day and register then? If I go on race day, is there a risk that it will already be full and I will be turned away? Thanks.
You can sign up on race day. We don’t have a set limit, and have never turned anybody away.

We always have a lot of people coming from out-of-town to visit family. Somebody came from the UK last year (across the pond). It’s fun to see whole families run it together. We have a good time.
I submitted my registration and payment via mail about a week and a half ago and the check still has not cleared my account. I just want to make sure I sent it to the right place and the people I submitted in the registration are registered for the race on Thanksgiving. Is there a way to find this out?

It says no entries after midnight last night, but we can register on race day? I’m confused. I just found out about the race today and really want to register. I’ll be in town on Wednesday. Can I stop by Swags or is it too late?
The best thing to do is register on race day. It helps if you fill out the form and bring it with you. We’d rather get early registrations, but lots of people sign up race day. See you there…

I am new to running in this area. What percentage of the course would you say involves hills?
I’d guess 75%. But it’s up-and-back, so only 35% would be uphill. There’s another post here talking about it. Here’s a topo map.
Where is the starting line? Also will late registration be at or near the starting line?
The starting line, and the late registration table, are near the “splash park”, basketball court, and tennis courts. It’s right off Newcut Rd at the Kenwood Dr. traffic light. This is a Google view of the location.
I was wondering if I wait til the day of the race to register if I’ll still get a shirt?
We order shirts weeks before the race, and try to get enough of the right sizes to give one to everybody. Most people get the size shirt they want, but we can’t guarantee we’ll have one in your size. It’s best to avoid the last-minute rush on race day – just come a little early (8:00 – 8:30).
when are the race results posted?
I’ll be working on them over the weekend, so I hope to have the results early next week. I have to enter several hundred day-of-race entries and get the times assigned correctly, etc. It’s a little slow compared to other races with “chips”, etc., but it keeps the cost down and the prizes up.

Great run today and fantastic weather–really enjoyed the music, fun and especially the hills 🙂 This is a great way to start thanksgiving…thanks for allowing my legs to carry me and my heart to beat really fast…
Thanks for a terrific race. We come from DC and love this race. This year my 9 year old son participated and may have placed in the 14 and under. I didn’t leave an address. How can I get you his address in the hopeful event he placed? #947 and just under 40 minutes.
This is one of the best local runs a person will ever run. Swag and the folks from IHR do a fabulous job. I have enjoyed this race even in the pouring rain. I wish I could have stayed for the prizes this year. But I had to get home and help with the cooking. As long as they have this run and I can still get my tired butt out of bed, I’ll run this race!

I had a fabulous time. I was slow this year. I enjoyed the view this time. I’m going to do that more often in my running!
My Texan aunt and uncle come up for Thanksgiving every year and since they’re runners and cyclists, we’ve enjoyed doing turkey trots together. This was our first year at Iroquois and I worried the hills would turn them off (remember, they’re from Texas!). They LOVED it and have requested that we do this again next year. I had a great time too, so you’ll definitely have us back 🙂 thanks for a great race and helping to make my family’s visit so enjoyable!

I also did not see my name listed. I finished around 37 minutes, age group 55-59. I understand it is a challenge. I did go through the line and all the fine workers took my number down several times.

Could you please figure out why my time & finish is not listed? I was bid number 109 and finished between 35:40 and 35:50 by my watch.

One question.. i finished 4 th in the 30-34 female..however 1st in my age group was 2nd overall women.. wouldn’t that bump me up to 3rd in my age group?

I have been running there at the park since i was 15 or 16 for me there is a lot of history my father took us there to play in the leaves because they were better and bigger than the ones at our home my mother took us to play on the swings I can still remember the sound of the way the chain sqeaked when you swung back and forth . I punched my first guy in the nose because i thought he was moving in on my girl,, we were allowed to go to the top at that time it was “inspiration point” to us,, Heck i can remember sledding on the golf course side on CAR hoods . Iroquois is my home ,, cross country was ran on the horse trails,, I can remember those Ugly New Balance running shoes ,, 15 mile runs down southern parkway on sundays ,,And Yes Swag was an ICON and still is ,,I worked for him at his first store down there by what is now a mexican restaurant,I could smell banana muffins being baked upstairs as we resurfaced running shoes on an old grinder he made and the Fresh smell of opening a box of brand new shoes from the factory,BOY oh !!,, IHR started as nothing more than an old Brown bulletien board in the parking lot with rain soaked race entry forms faded from the weather (we didnt care).It certainly is a privelege to be around you all ,,my friends at the park. What were the total number of runners I usually dont see the overall results posted seperate like that do you add men and women together for 926 runners or….?

Thanks for the history – it’s always interesting to hear about “the old times”. We signed up 1081 people including walkers. A few didn’t come. Approximately 500 men and 460 finish times were recorded. We always wonder what becomes of the people who pick up their race packet but don’t get recorded at the finish.
