I haven’t run with the group but would love to come to this. Can you explain the poker cards?
At places around the course runners will be given playing cards. At the finish our scorers will look at them and the runners with the highest poker hands win prizes. There are also other door prizes that are drawn from a list of entrants. It’s a lot of fun and everything goes to the Toys for Tots program.
Sounds great! Do runners sign up, or just show up?
Just show up. We’ll have a sign-in at the race. We usually have about 300 runners, so it’s a good idea to get there a little early.
How much is the entry fee?
The entry fee is a contribution of a new toy or cash to the Toys for Tots Foundation. You decide how much to contribute to this fine charity.
Is there an age restriction for this race?
Our races are open to everybody. This one is unusual because most prizes are awarded by the luck of the draw, not performance, so young and old have equal chances of winning something.
Is this event open to walkers as well?
Yes. And since the prizes are not tied to performance, walkers have an equal chance for them!
Is this open for anyone that wants to participate as long as you donate a new toy, or do you have to be a member of the iroquois hill runners club?
All of our races are open to everyone.
This was a great race. Will look forward to it next year…:-)
A note from Race Director Donna Younger:
Thank you everyone who came out, volunteers and participants, to help make the IHR Toys for Tots Poker Run another great race to help underprivileged children have a better Christmas. Over 200 toys collected and approx. $1300 in cash donations! Thank you for your generosity and hope everyone had a great time. Also congrats to 19 yr. old Jacob Tomson who won the race with a course record of 14:48 and to the women’s winner Shannon Knable finishing with 18:16. Hope to see you again next year!
